KLM to cancel dozens of flights as Schiphol ground staff plan strike

Dutch flagship carrier KLM will cancel dozens of flights on Wednesday as ground staff at Amsterdam Schiphol airport have planned a four-hour strike, the airline said Monday, reported Xinhua.

The walkout, led by unions CNV and FNV, follows similar action last week that disrupted travel for 27,000 passengers.

Baggage handlers, aircraft movers and customer service staff are demanding higher pay, more permanent contracts and compensation for heavy work.

KLM has struck a separate deal with three other unions, offering a 2.25 percent pay rise from October 2025 through 2026, but CNV and FNV argue it fails to offset inflation and erodes purchasing power for the airline's employees.

This would be the unions' third strike attempt this summer. Earlier efforts in June and July were blocked by a Dutch court.
