Ukraine, US conclude bilateral talks in Geneva

Ukraine-U.S. talks in Geneva concluded and preparations are underway for the next round of negotiations, Ukraine's chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said Thursday evening in a post on X, reported Xinhua.
Umerov, Ukraine's national security and defense council secretary, said the objective is to make the next trilateral meeting involving the United States and Russia "as substantive as possible."
Umerov said particular attention during the latest meetings was devoted to Ukraine's economic track and long-term support mechanisms. Together with the Ukrainian government's economic team and American partners, the Ukrainian side conducted a detailed review of a document on Ukraine's recovery.
He said the parties agreed that their respective teams would continue refining the document, with a focus on future reconstruction and the investment plan.
Ukrainian and U.S. delegations began talks here on Thursday afternoon as part of the efforts to end the years-long Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. delegations previously held two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 23-24 and Feb. 4-5, followed by another round in Geneva on Feb. 17-18, yielding no agreement on key issues.
Meanwhile, the next trilateral meeting could take place in early March in Abu Dhabi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday, reported Xinhua, quoting the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
Speaking after a meeting between Ukraine's negotiating team and envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelensky said there is growing readiness for another trilateral meeting and that preparations are underway for a possible leaders-level format.
"There is now greater readiness for the next trilateral format. Most likely, the next meeting will take place in the Emirates, specifically in Abu Dhabi. We expect the format to take place in early March," Zelensky said.
He added that Ukraine and its partners believe the conflict should be brought to an end.
Meanwhile, Zelensky said late Wednesday that he spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump about preparations for future talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The two leaders discussed the upcoming meeting of the delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia planned for early March.
In a post on X, Zelensky said the Ukrainian side expects the trilateral meeting to "create an opportunity to move talks to the leaders' level," adding that Trump supports the move.
"This is the only way to resolve all the complex and sensitive issues and finally end the war," he added.
