Ukraine, Russia swap 84 prisoners each in latest exchanges

Russia and Ukraine on Thursday each exchanged 84 prisoners captured during their ongoing conflict, the Russian Defense Ministry said, reported Xinhua.

The freed Russian service members were in Belarus and would be transported to the medical facilities of the Russian military for treatment and rehabilitation, it said.

“A new exchange, 84 people, both military personnel and civilians. Almost all of them require medical care and significant rehabilitation,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in a post on his social media platform X on Thursday.

The latest prisoner exchanges between the conflicting parties were mediated by the United Arab Emirates, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, thirteen people were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, local authorities said Thursday.

Two of the wounded have been taken to local medical institutions and were in serious condition, Rostov region's acting governor Yury Slyusar said on his Telegram channel.

"Another 11 people with injuries are currently being delivered to the hospital. Information on the victims will be updated," he said.

Several apartment buildings in Rostov were damaged due to the drone attack, according to Slyusar.

Also on Thursday, a Ukrainian drone reportedly struck the government building and caused minor damage in west Russia's Belgorod region.
