Tram derails in Berlin, 20 injured

About 20 passengers were injured, three seriously, after a tram derailed and crashed into utility poles in eastern Berlin on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

According to German newspaper B.Z., the front section of the tram swung out while navigating a left curve, causing the carriages to lose balance. The train then derailed and struck the poles.

Among the injured, 12 were transported to local hospitals.

The local transport company estimated that the recovery operation and infrastructure repairs would take at least 48 hours.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
