Swiss competition authority looks into Nivea price fixing

Switzerland's WEKO competition authority announced on Tuesday that it would investigate Germany's Beiersdorf company in relation to the prices charged in Switzerland for its Nivea range of products, reported dpa.

The probe will look into whether Hamburg-based Beiersdorf is abusing its dominant market position.

WEKO will investigate whether Beiersdorf demands higher prices from Swiss supermarket chain Migros for Nivea products than from comparable chains in other countries.

A WEKO spokeswoman confirmed that Migros, a cooperative and Switzerland's largest supermarket chain, had lodged a complaint relating to Beiersdorf after negotiating for better terms.

Those talks had broken down in the autumn of last year, she said. The probe into Beiersdorf could last 18 months, she said.
