Slovenia announces €1.2m aid for Palestinian administration

Slovenia will provide 1.2 million euros in financial assistance to the Palestinian administration, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said Thursday, reported Xinhua.

The aid aims to help support the fiscal stability of the Palestinian administration, which it said is facing "financial and institutional collapse" due to the conflict in Gaza, rising tensions in the West Bank and Israeli measures against Palestine, the ministry said in a statement on its website.

"The effective functioning of the Palestinian administration is essential for ensuring Palestinian self-governance and represents a basic condition for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue through the establishment of two states," the statement quoted Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon as saying. She signed the assistance agreement on the sidelines of a Donor Group Meeting in Brussels.

Fajon also highlighted the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, stressing the urgent need for humanitarian relief and continued support to Palestinian authorities, according to her post on the ministry's account on social media platform X.

"Slovenia stands firmly for the two-state solution. Every nation has the right to self-determination," she said.

Slovenia, currently a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, officially recognized the State of Palestine in June 2024.
