Severe storms disrupt flights, transport in Romania
Romania's National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued an orange alert on Monday as torrential rain and strong winds battered Bucharest and the surrounding Ilfov County, reported Xinhua.
The warning, valid for up to six hours, forecast heavy downpours, storms, strong wind gusts, and local flooding.
In Bucharest, severe rainfall flooded major roads, disrupted traffic, and led to the suspension of several tram lines. Emergency alerts urged residents to remain indoors.
Air traffic was also affected. According to the national airports company of Bucharest, multiple departing flights were delayed, while two inbound international flights — from Paris and Stuttgart — were diverted to Constanta. A domestic flight from Cluj-Napoca was rerouted to Craiova.
Authorities remain on high alert, with unstable weather expected to persist into the afternoon.
