New police drone introduced to bolster border control in Denmark

Denmark's South Jutland Police said Monday it has introduced a fixed-wing drone to patrol the Danish-German land border. The new asset is part of the temporary border-control regime reorganized in 2023 to focus more on cross-border crime, reported Xinhua.
"With the drone in the toolbox, we will get even more information about activity in the border region," Police Director Frits Kjeldsen said in a statement, adding that it will perform some of the observations previously made by patrols.
The fixed-wing platform, supplied by a German manufacturer, has a wingspan of about three meters, weighs nearly 25 kg, runs on electric motors and includes multiple safety systems.
Police said the procurement has been long-planned and is unrelated to recent drone incidents.
Since late September, Denmark has reported repeated drone sightings near airports and military installations. Authorities imposed a nationwide temporary ban on all civilian drone flights from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.
South Jutland Police also said it continued receiving reports of drone observations near Sonderborg and Esbjerg airports during the last week of September.
