Moldova’s ruling party secures majority in parliamentary polls

Moldova's ruling Party of Action and Solidarity secured a majority in Sunday's parliamentary elections with just over half of the vote, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced Monday, reported Xinhua.
With all polling stations counted, the ruling party won 50.2 percent of the vote, followed by the Patriotic Electoral Bloc with 24.17 percent, the Alternative Bloc with 7.96 percent, Our Party with 6.2 percent and the Democracy at Home Party with 5.62 percent. All five parties passed the electoral threshold to enter parliament, according to the preliminary results released by the CEC.
In total, 14 political parties, four electoral blocs and four independent candidates competed for the 101-seat legislature. The thresholds for entry are 5 percent for parties, 7 percent for blocs and 2 percent for independents.
Moldova held parliamentary elections on Sunday. A total of 2,274 polling stations were established, including 301 abroad, with 3,423 observers monitoring the vote, including 912 international observers. According to the CEC, voter turnout surpassed 52 percent, with about 1.6 million ballots cast.
Moldova's parliament serves a four-year term. The previous legislature was elected in July 2021.
