Germany sees rise in deportations in H1 of 2025

The number of deportations from Germany rose to more than 11,800 in the first half of 2025, according to the Interior Ministry, reported dpa.

The figure, released in response to a parliamentary question by Leif-Erik Holm of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), was provided to dpa.

It marks an increase from about 9,500 deportations during the same period in 2024. That year, authorities carried out more than 20,000 deportations – the highest in several years.

Earlier this month, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt joined his counterparts from Austria, Denmark, France, the Czech Republic, and Poland in calling for a tougher approach on migration and asylum policy.

"Effective returns are essential for maintaining trust in a balanced European migration policy," the ministers said in a joint statement.

Despite the rising figures, Holm criticized the government's efforts as insufficient. "There is no sign of a deportation offensive anywhere," he said, calling for deportation centres to prevent those ordered to leave from going into hiding.
