The convicted German right-wing extremist Marla Svenja Liebich has lodged an appeal against her extradition from the Czech Republic to Germany, reported dpa.
A spokesman for the regional court in the Czech city of Pilsen confirmed the move to dpa on Monday.
Liebich has also filed a challenge for bias against the presiding judge. Both appeals will be decided by the High Regional Court in Prague.
The regional court ruled a week ago that Liebich should be extradited to Germany. During the hearing, Liebich, who is transgender, stated that she did not wish to be taken to Germany for a number of reasons, including that she feared for her life if she was held in a German men’s prison.
An initial challenge for bias against the presiding judge was rejected at the hearing.
Liebich was arrested on April 9 this year in the Czech Republic, close to the German border, following a months-long Europe-wide search. The 55-year-old is currently being held in custody in the prison in Pilsen, in western Czech Republic.
The far-right extremist was sentenced in Germany in July 2023 to a total prison term of one year and six months without parole for incitement to hatred, defamation and insult.
Following the conviction, Liebich had her gender changed from male to female. Critics viewed this as a provocation and spoke of an abuse of Germany’s gender Self-Determination Act.
