Finland sees warmer October than usual

October was warmer than usual throughout the country and even the northern part of the country was unusually warm, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

The average temperature in October ranged between 1.5 degrees Celsius in Enontekiö in the far northwest to about 10 degrees in the southwestern archipelago, said FMI in a press release on Saturday.

The average temperature for whole the country was from 1 degree Celsius to 3.5 degrees Celsius warmer than the average temperature in the 1991-2020 period.

The highest temperature of the month, 15.7 degrees Celsius, was measured at Vänö in Kimitoön on October 6 and the lowest temperature, minus 13.4 degrees Celsius, was recorded on October 21 in Enontekiö and Muonio.

The country experienced season´s first snowfall at Kilpisjärvi in Enontekiö on October 16 and it was more than two weeks later than usual. There was 17 centimetres snow on the ground by October 24.
