3 suspected UAE spies detained in Istanbul

Turkish authorities on Tuesday detained three people in Istanbul on suspicion of spying for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said, reported Xinhua.
According to a statement by the office, UAE intelligence operatives allegedly used a mobile line obtained from a Turkish operator and fake online profiles to contact personnel working in key positions in Türkiye's defense industry.
The suspects also attempted to access the phone used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several foreign officials in an effort to gather biographical data on individuals in critical positions.
The office added that a fourth suspect linked to the case is abroad, and an international arrest warrant has been issued. All the suspects are accused of conducting military and political espionage.
