100 passengers leave German train after smoke smelt

Around 100 passengers had to leave a German Intercity Express (ICE) train at a station in the southern German state of Bavaria on Christmas Eve due to a technical fault, reported dpa.

A fire alarm was triggered in the rear power car of the train in the small town of Emskirchen in the Middle Franconia region on Tuesday, the fire brigade said.

There was a smell of smoke detected there, but emergency services were unable to find a fire. The smell was caused by a technical issue with the brakes, a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn said on Wednesday.

The affected ICE 584 was sent for repairs.

The passengers were able to continue their journey on another ICE train.
